Yellowstone Spring 2011
The snow is supposed to thaw by the start of the May. At least that is what the calendar says…. But in reality the end of May still had record snow continuously falling and the ground had a substantial snow pack. Avalanche danger alerts were in effect everywhere. The melt is what I worry about.
The sightings began with a grizzly and ended with a Grizzly. However, cubs were scarce. The snow had to have an impact. Sows must have kept their brood in the dens or nearby as late as possible. The food supply of carcasses was evident everywhere. Winter had taken it’s toll on all the hoofed animals. Predators had their pick just about everywhere in the Park and the surrounding woodlands.
“A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone”. Well, one must have been very rich to visit this Park at this time of year because there were many things to be seen and I was very lucky to have seen what I witnessed. And I left it alone. These images keep reminding me of the magnificence that is Yellowstone.
